The police in Stockholm are attempting to prevent nightclub violence by trying a new and innovative concept. The police send out text messages to nightclub and bar security with a description of wanted criminals, in hope that security staff may recognize wanted criminals in the clubs and bars or on the street before they come in. They are also collaborating with Nightwalkers, who commonly associate themselves with youths and are in areas of the city that younger people can be found.

If the Security staff or Nightwalkers recognises someone of interest to the Police, they can quickly contact the local commune`s communications central (LKC), or via the Collaboration Desk, which the City Police are presently focusing on handling these types of calls.

Both the LKC and the Collaboration Desk will then contact the officers who are in the field. With this new initiative in conjunction with the direct lines of communications, the Stockholm Police are hoping to be able arrest wanted criminals that in other circumstances would have escaped prosecution. They also hope to limit violence by warning security staff of potential aggressive individuals. The Collaboration Desk will also assist the security staff by answering questions and providing information, i.e. the Police can provide assistance and information in relation id checks.
